New Video: a JUICY Art Journal Tutorial

Hello my lovely

Hope you’re having a gloriously creative weekend so far. I have a new video tutorial for you today, all about the EDGES of your journal pages.

After the little tut I share a few of my art journals pages I created using this edges technique as a base too...

hope you enjoy:

These are the sketchbooks I use: http://amzn.to/2rFFgjZ

The glues I use are double sided sticky tape, Glue Stick (my fav http://amzn.to/2ol28TQ) and Tacky Glue (Aleenes Original being my preference http://amzn.to/2oJmnxv).

Here is the ‘3 Glues Technique’ video I mentioned and used in the Juicy Edges tutorial:

Enjoy the rest of your weekend
Jennibellie
XOXO

A Retiring Year of Uncertainty (& How I've Stayed Certain) - Daily Behind the Scenes Blog 2

Hi love

This is my second daily blog behind the scenes post, you can view yesterdays here. I'm summing up what I've been up to lately all in one week! (Yep, it's a mission! lol)

In this post I'm going to pretty much sum up my entire year

A couple of days ago I received a message from Connie the creator of 21 Secrets, letting me know that the class I contributed to last year is retiring. This got me to thinking, I thought about all the projects I did last year, including this one. Then I thought of all I've done this year, while still a lot it has definitely been a retiring year for me, and my creativity.

A few months ago, perhaps even a few weeks ago, I would have said I would be ready for 2016 to be over.

Not much had gone my way, my creativity while I wouldn't use the used 'blocked' was certainly lacking. Inner critics dug their claws in early on, replacing my usual creative angels and muses. To someone who has been used to creativity being a faithful companion for years now (with a few little hiccups occasionally along the way) it is quite a heavy loss to feel! I also lost some family members, one of whom I loved beyond description, and I cannot even type this now without tears taking over (while I am through deliberate intention a happy person and I celebrate his life more than his death I still get caught unawares but my emotions welling up like this and sticking in somewhere around my throat). I have felt stuck and uncertain as to where my future lay, a feeling that soon becomes overwhelming and chocking all in it's own right.

journal page from one of the....well you can guess what kind of day!

So yes, not long ago I'd have told you to 'take it away' if you'd have brought 2016 up to me (in an 'off with it's head' Queen of Hearts tone)

Now though, as I shared in yesterdays post, things are changing. Creativity has returned. Clarity is everywhere. Passion is back. The murkiness has lifted as I stopped focusing on the obscurity of 'the future' and decided to concentrate on now. Want do I want now? A new studio*? Sure! To create a new class? Righto, let's go! Some of that gorgeous chocolate cake? Oh just one piece then! Find the right biz coach? Oh err, okay! To plan an adventure? Lemme get my planner! To create some new DIY embellishments? Whoop whoop! A cuddle with my bum bum**? Come 'ere boy *smooshies*!

I now don't want this year to end!

I feel there's so much I still want to do! I stopped being wrapped up in what had gone wrong (which just continues the spiral) and took notice of what great things are happening now.

I'm sharing this because at some points this year I really was at a loss, really was at my lowest, but I feel better now and wanted to share how I did it.

Things are still as uncertain for me as they were before...

but what has shifted is my attitude towards that. In truth aren't things always uncertain. Isn't certainty just an illusion we make up? Something we pretend is there to feel safe, but something that doesn't really exist. I think many people have felt their illusions shift with the political shocks this year. I felt it with Brexit. The world as a whole appears to be feeling it with the US Presidental Election results. What I noticed though is that after this year, a year of personal uncertainty, the mass uncertainty could not keep me in fear for very long - not even for a few minutes.

Things are uncertain right now. Things will always be uncertain. My job is to be okay in spite of this, in spite of whatever is going on in my life, or in the world at large.

Tears may well in my eyes at times but I stay in my knowing that all is well. I stay certain, because it is not the job of the world to do that for me. Our emotions, our lives, our achievements and our desires are our own responsibility.

And as this year retires I thank all the uncertainty that presented itself in my life for teaching me how to stay certain;
how to create, and live in, my own stability.

Till Tomorrow

* more on my new studio in tomorrow's post!

Sticky Things Haul Video & Journal Page

Helllllllllllllllllllllllllloooooooooooo

It has been SO long since I've posted around here I thought I'd share what I did with you today, so here's a haul vlog. I usually don't do haul videos (although I get asked...a lot) because you know me, I don't like feeding into the 'you have to have this latest thing to be creative'. At the same time I love new goodies as much as anyone, and this is just a lil haul I got from Etsy seller 'Alicemolds' so I'm always happy to support another Etsy Shop owner - they have a lovely selection of 'sticky things' and I really like what I got:

And here's what I made with this afternoon with this haul:

While making the page I decided I wanted some circles, similar to bubble wrap but not, so I dug around to find a teeny tiny scrap dreg of rubber to create a makeshift circle stamp.

(...plus I had a lotta fun rearranging my washi storage holder - too much fun really, that much fun should never be allocated to washi tape lol)

So that's a lil of my day, first day I have managed to spend a full several hours in my studio just 'milling' in aggggggggggggges! Feels so good, I shall write a more in depth blogpost this coming week about what I have been up to lately - I have neglected JB Studio this last couple of months so will be a much regular blogger for the rest of this year. Right now though I'm off to do a bit more milling, see's ya later

Remembering My Creativity: A Personal Share About 2016

I've spent the last couple of hours searching old sd cards of my creations for an art project I'm doing. It was a bizarre feeling to look through these teeny tiny things that hold the entire history of my connection to my muse.

It left me very reflective over many things I've been dealing with this year, a battle (or perhaps several battles in a larger war) that has been raging between my creativity and I. (I also stumbled across some pictures of a half naked ex boyfriend which I suppose didn't help my mood either lol).

You see I've had a tough year emotionally. I've had a lot of gremlins come up internally and some hard changes externally.

I cannot always lay my finger on what has been wrong but this year unlike any other before my creativity has not always been there for me, in fact some times it has been the source of my pain. It is really scary to share this, because I have always been an advocate for using your creativity to process tough emotions, never to use it to be the cause of them!

It is wrong to say my creativity has not always been there for me in the sense that I 'lost it' because that's not the case, it's just some times I've just not wanted to access my creativity because of how I'm feeling about it.

It's a new level of understanding this complex relationship that seems to hold more layers and nuisances than any person-to-person relationship I've ever had.

Looking through the sd cards today I saw times when I had no clue what my creativity and I were doing together, but we did it anyway. I saw times when I knew exactly what I was doing and still got surprised by the outcome. I saw times when I did not think I was showing up at all but my creativity still took itself for a spin anyway.

I saw a really thick and rich history, and it was gorgeous to remember it all, first mentally, then emotionally and then through my hands with this RAW Intuitive Journal page:

RAW Intuitive Journaling is all about connecting with your creativity through your intuition and a useful tool for process emotions through art. I have a class on this which you can find out more about it on my art community here:

(or if you're not a member of my community site you can read about it on Etsy here:

In doing this RAW page I was reminded that I know this thing that is creativity, I know it, well. I actually know thousands of techniques and sooooo many processes. I can run rings around any magician for tricks up their sleeve.

It's kinda hard to see the layers via these pictures but through the surfaces of quickened scribbles and scraped on gesso I focused on what it was that I was really feeling and was ready to write with my paint markers.

The words on the page say

Wondering:
I'm beyond where I thought I was
And I'm wondering where to take that.
What's coming is kinda sorta amazing.
And it'll teach me right for forgetting to be amazed.

There's also something in there about getting my confidence back, so I guess what I'm really happy to say is...I finally think I see the bright colours of my creativity through the thick fog of emotions again!

And on top of that understand what this new twist to my relationship has taught me (for one thing: to remember to be amazed!).

I remembered that when I want to meet my creativity it is never as hard as I've been making it out to be. In fact it's easy, because... well I know it,
I know it well

I hope if you ever are at this juncture of your relationship with creativity you'll remember this too. What helped me get here is following the steps I shared in this article I recently wrote about 'Dealing with Creative Demotivation'.

Thanks for reading
Love, an artist who just re-remembered her creativity

Do you have any tricks for getting over this overwhelm? Or deal with any other kinds of overwhelm in art? (pst if it's to do with having too many ideas oh boy do I know that one! I did this video below to address that)

Yesterday I also posted the Monthly Challenge Video mentioned in the Finishing Your Art Journal Pages Video above which you can view here:

Current In Progress Mixed Media Art Journal Pages

Hello (my how beautiful you are!)

Back to a proper 'weekly ramble' format this week, meaning this post is a quick snapshot of where my creativity is at & view of in progress stuff rather than any completed things.

My creativity has been going crazy the past week, but most especially the past 48 hours. I literally got zero sleep last night; ideas kept jumping, twisting and turning through my brain, I barely put my light out long enough for my eyes to notice let alone close. I am running on fumes today but I think it's gonna be worth it I have FINALLY found the structure(s) I want to create the Daily Rituals Class in (a class I have been trying to mould, shape and create for what feels like forever, all about about creating a daily creative journaling practice that supports you). So today I took my Ideas Journal to my outdoor studio and had a loooong Planning Session (a concept for creating I share in my Creative Goal Journaling Class) to form the Classes that will be (hopefully, with a bit of work) be coming soon...

The other main area my creativity has been channelled the past few days is journal pages.

Here's some in progress ones:

Puppy dog needs some more layers and pen work I think

This is a 5 min collage I think I'm gonna leave as is, and do some more of these, very freeing

Here's some progress shots of a now finished one:

So that's the snapshot of my creative week.
How has yours been? Share in the comments below, I'd love to hear (I read every one!)

Have a great weekend
Much love

PS don't forget to check out the Monthly Art Challenge Video if you haven't already, you can find it here: http://tinyurl.com/aprilsartdate

Using What You Create Art Challenge (with Video & Printable)

Hello!

The Aprils Art Challenge is now OPEN on Journal Workshops with art video and free printable, where this month we are going to set about using what we’re creating.

Okay, okay I'll tell you what it is but only on here so shhh I didn't really share it m'kay? okay, we're making something I LOVE: journal spots! On the surface it seems simple enough challenge right? Well in the video I share creating my journal spots out of recycling, share my journal spot drawer (yep I have a huge journal spot drawer....if only that were the totality of my incriminating paper supplies!), share the pages in my everyday journal where I have used the journal spots (I set myself a challenge to make create journal spot pages everyday for a week) so there's actually more to think about than creating journal spots (but in an awesome, creative way). I also share a free journal spot printable for everyone to use.

Here’s a sneak peek of one of those weekly pages:

Hop on over to the challenge by clicking the image above,
hope you enjoy it =)
Much love
Jennibellie

If you’ve never heard of the Challenge Group before it is a free monthly art date that I host on my Art Community, Journal Workshops. A bunch of us creatives get together to... well...create and also share our work, inspire and encourage one another.

It's a great place to be, and to be a part of it you just need to click the 'Join Monthly Challenge' Button at the top of the Monthly Challenge Group (http://journalworkshops.ning.com/group/monthly-challenge) & it'll let you in immediately (assuming you are a member of Journal Workshops, if not just sign up here: http://journalworkshops.ning.com/ then you'll get access to this, and a bunch of other free arty offerings, easy peasy!)

Hello 2016 - Intention Setting Techniques

...a week in already!! I hope this year has treated you well so far. I have really felt the energy of a new year this year and spent a lot of time thinking about what I want out of it, and setting my intentions. So I thought I'd share some here. Over the past week I have shared a few techniques on different places online (mainly my art community, Journal Workshops) but decided to pull them all together in this blogpost.

First up a 2016 Mood Board Video I share as this Month's Challenge. I have never posted a monthly challenge video directly on here before, so if you want to see all the other Monthly Challenge videos from me, plus 100s of artists take on the challenges you can do so here (go on, it's free!): http://journalworkshops.ning.com/group/monthly-challenge

and of course the Class I mention in the video, Creative Goal Journaling, is ALL about setting intentions but with practical tools to see those intentions become reality & right now there is 50% OFF:

This class consists of nine incredibly condensed modules full of tools, processes, journaling tricks and advice provided via graphic learning aid images, well over 40 videos (more likely 60 when I'm done) and pdfs which support you through every step of the journey from understanding how to plan to actually achieving your goals (whatever they may be).

The 50% off offer only lasts for two more days,
click the image below or link to find out the full details:

Another tool for setting intentions I've been using a lot this week and sharing in the class is my 2016 Shining Workbooks:

Finally after being asked a lot to share something on crystals I decided to mix it with intentions and shared this video on setting intentions via a crystal grid process:

So those are a few of the intention setting techniques I've done so far and whatever your intentions are for this year, I hope you have an awesome 2016.
Much love

Portfolio Loose Leaf Art Journal Flip & Christmas Class Craziness!!

Hi! Hope you've had a fabulous Christmas period and are still rolling around from how stuffed you are (she says as she's eating her Christmas choccies =) )

I have a new journal flip today, as I said I would after the last Loose Leaf Art Journal Flip, those of you in the Monthly Challenge Group may recognise some of these pages.
Hope you enjoy:

I'm a bit late doing this weekly ramble as obviously Friday was Christmas day, though I suppose that doesn't matter much as Christmas Eve (I've no idea what possessed me) I opened the doors to my Brand New Class,

Though to be honest despite the unfortunate timing it wasn't that much of a crazy decision. It hasn't taken that much to get it prepared and launched, though I'm pretty sure that's because I'm so passionate about it that the work it takes doesn't feel like work - and that's exactly what I can't wait to teach in this class; how to bring your goals into being in the most joyous, easy way possible

It is a different kind of 'creation' class. It is my most premium and comprehensive class but right now I am offering it at a Christmas Gift Price of Over 50% off:

Click here to see all that's included in the class:

Much love and if I don't see you before
************ Happy New Year ************

Loose Leaf Art Journal Flip Video & Peek at my Junk Journal

So this week I have been doing a lot of junk journaling, in truth as an assistance to a huuuuugggeeee project I've been working on eeeeeekkkkkkk...more on that coming soon. But it's the reason I haven't posted on here for a couple of weeks - I've just been swept away, it's been boootiful!! The only other major thing I've been doing is planning my glorious new year with my 2016 Shining Workbooks:

After I posted this pic of Facebook I got a couple of emails about them and what they're for: they're by Leonie Dawson and their bright, colourful & practical tools to achieving what you want out of your upcoming year. You can find out more here: http://tinyurl.com/ShiningWorkbooks

So seeing as the junk journaling is my main art journaling process atm & I was already doing a new journal flip video I thought I would share some of those junk pages and their process in the flip too...
hope you enjoy =)

Hope you have an awesome week
((((One weeeek till Christmasssssss)))) wohooohoohoooo (or should that just be ho ho ho??) either way have a great one!!!

About Creative Evolution

So last week I wrote about ‘Passion Projects' being the nearest thing I have found to that total sense of escapism through creative pursuit, which I now often miss in my every day journaling practice.

But this week I want to write about how wishing for that level of escape in my everyday creativity which I used to have every-single-time I created (or any previous stage of creative pursuit), to be back again, is utter madness.

So what do I feel now when I create:
Joy & Happiness
Excitement & Enthusiasm
Interest & Intention
Challenges & Blocks
Hiccups & Frustration
Relief & Burnout

So what did I feel then when I created:
Utter Joy & Total Lack of Thought.

So the above list of previous things I used to feel when creating looks pretty good. The current list of what I feel...well when compared to the other, not so good. But the list of feelings I have when I create now is pretty much given in order of how I project runs & this is telling in itself.

It shows how now the process is more meaty. It shows how it's actually evolved into a process.

My previous when-I-created feelings show creation happened without any process in mind occuring at all. It was just done. And that total sense of escapism into the art could only occur because a) I didn't have very much time to create, so that which I did was precious and b) I was very unhappy, dealing with grief and a bunch of other negative feelings to do with working in a soul-sucking rat race environment. Back then I thought if I was gifted with more time to create and happier life circumstances then I would be MADE UP. Well guess what? I am now living that life, and it is and isn't how I imagined it would be.

I create, create, create as I imagined I would, but not in the simple one-dimensional level I did before. This means I cannot always be completely immersed in the art because the expansion of life caused an expansion in my art. I am no longer satisfied just slapping paint down, I want there to be meaning behind it, I want to use a plethora of techniques, I want to be sharing or teaching it. So while I may occasionally crave the 'Utter Joy & Total Lack of Thought' the pursuit of art used to bring, MY CREATIVITY CRAVES MORE

...and besides, the price of being unhappy is too high a price to pay to get that again...

...it's like waiting for the relief of water when you've been running for miles on a scorching hot day, verses sitting in a comfortable room and drinking drink after drink consistently. The former is my previous life and the art was the water, but in the latter which is my life now, the thirst cannot be quenched because there is no thirst. I am in a comfortable armchair drinking drink after drink.

So while I sometimes still crave that level of complete escapism I wanted to share this important message if you ever feel the crave for an older time in your creative story to come around again. Whatever benefits there were you have more benefits now because evolution moves in the right direction. Take nature as your teacher if not me for that. It doesn't mean you're may be happy with every decision you've ever made nor that you might not want to pick up some previous habits that served you well once again. Evolution just means the natural progress of your journey, the path, the whole and where you currently are (- and without that path you wouldn't know that you 'want to pick up some previous habits that served you well' again anyway). Evolution moves in the right direction because that is the direction it has gone in.

I get emails all the time from people who feel like they've lost their mojo, or find it difficult switching from say scrapbooking to mixed media and even from people who have transferred from creating for the fun of it to doing it for extra income and all feel what I have described here: The longing for the safe, old ways of our creativity & the perplexity and/or distress by the new realities of it

I think the answer for everyone in such a situation is to understand the essence of this:

It is just Your Creative Evolution.
You are on a Journey! Not a One Point Stop.
It Gives more than it Takes.
and
Lean into it, because it will happen anyway.

and just for fun...what was my Passion Project this week??
junk journaling...
and also making clay things as you can see from the top right.

That's all from me this week,
what have you been up to? Please share in the comments below
Have a great weekend
Much <3

PS Checked out my new class yet??? It launched this week, here are the details:

All About Passion Projects

So this year I’ve really needed a lot of what I call ‘Passion Projects’. These are essentially the private projects I keep all to myself and they are essential for making my other projects, especially those where I’m delivering something to others so it has to be amazing, happen.

Passion Projects are the nearest thing I have found that draw me back to that feeling when I first started art journaling (and actually knowing what it was I was doing) on the floor of my flat in London in an attempt to escape the day to day pain and heartache I was going through. Those pages were the nearest thing I have found to that total sense of escapism through creative pursuit, which I now often miss in my every day journaling practice.

my old creative space (and the floor in front of it was where the main events happened) in my old bedroom in my London days

So once upon a time every project I had was a Passion Project, and you may be reading this thinking ‘yeah every one of my projects is a Passion Project’ and even ‘why would you create any project anyway Jennibellie if it’s not a Passion Project?’ Well it’s not that I don’t have passion for all my projects because I do (or obviously I wouldn’t be creating them) but there are a couple of reasons there is a level of passion difference to these I am calling ‘Passion Projects’.

First as I said at the beginning when you begin creating things for other people the projects begin to feel different, basically because your objectives are different. I learnt this several years ago when I first started selling my handmade journals. Those journals that went up for sale could not be like those haphazard journals I was happy to create and journal in myself. They needed to be neatly made, with clean lines, made with the correct materials and techniques and they needed to last…that is not to say I people wouldn’t have brought or wanted my own haphazard journals, because I’ve seen many a person sell all kinds of things that have a, let’s say ‘creative looseness’ to them and good on them. There is just something in me that means before anything I’ve made can go out into the world it needs to have met my own personal standards, which I’m sure you can relate to if you’ve ever made a present for someone that you really wanted them to treasure. So this level of attention to a finished product can often remove the freedom I feel in a Passion Project, which again is not to say that I don’t enjoy doing it, it just means I can’t have the total abandon that a Passion Project requires.

The second reason is to do with the escapism in the art, which I’m going to be going to be talking more about next week, as it is a whole blogpost in itself.

So how does a Passion Project help you finish your other projects? Well if you are someone who is creating a lot of things that have a lot of elements to them, or are of a large nature, or are creations to share with other people, or are items for sale…basically if you are anyone besides those creatives who are creating 100% of the time entirely for themselves (and if you are lucky you), but even if you are just someone who is making that many christmas cards stamping one more santa will drive you crackers then a Passion Project will help you in two main ways: 1) by giving you a break from your current project and 2) at the same time instilling you with creative energy to take back to that project.

A Passion Project is a project that comes COMPLETELY from the heart and one that you are so inspired by you just HAVE to do it, you simply don’t even have the choice your inspiration is just that high. Passion Projects are actually the love child of the Creative Instinct I talked about a couple of weeks ago, and while yes every project we do must have some passion in it for us to want to do it ‘Passion Projects’ are actually rarer than you may think. I estimate you to be VERY lucky if you manage to have 30% of your entire creative pursuits at Passion Project level, even if you 100% of the time creating private things for no one but yourself (the only exception I believe is when you first ‘rediscover’ your creative side and it feels like you’ll never want to do anything else but create again  - and creative blocks, critics and burnout are things that happen to other people.)

So my Passion Project this week? Making Orgonites:

I’m not going to go into what Orgonites are here, as they are not just a pretty thing to be made but put in the simplest way an energy balancing tool made of organic and inorganic substances, there’s a lot of science and intricacies behind it, which is very complicated to explain to anyone totally new to it so if you want to know more please feel free to look it up on your own – Dr. Wilhelm Reich is probably the best place to start.

These are my first batch of Orgonites, which I have been researching for years before I attempted making them (as they really are that intricate and something you want to get right or you will have just wasted a lot of expensive materials). They are something that I have been excited about creating for a long time, dreaming up designs and staying awake all night with anticipation. Now I get excited about every project that comes across my path but to still be excited about creating something years after you first thought of doing it – that is a Passion Project. And every moment creating them was so absorbing hour by hour disappeared without me realising – another sign of a Passion Project.

And the project the Orgonites were helping me to create? My new Art Journal Playdate which incidentally goes live TODAY Woohoo!!

The Journal Playdate is a workshop consisting of ten video steps that are each five minutes in length or under so you can follow along then go execute, follow along then go execute. It is how I would teach you to create an art journal page WITH MEANING if I was with you.

You can check out the details of the Playdate here: http://journalworkshops.ning.com/page/journal-playdates
And if you join in the next couple of days you will get 25% off!! (I like to reward my Early Birders!)

The Playdate isn’t just about making art, it is quite a profound process where every element created has a reason and meaning behind it so it is only for you if:

You want to learn how to use symbolism more in your art to convey your thoughts and emotions.
