Riding the 'Bleh!' Wave

Arrrrrrrrrrrrrrrgh!
mojo-abandoning, motivation-lacking, uncreatively-moody times are frustrating.

I've had nearly a day of 'free' creative time, in which I have not been particularily creative. I have made some stuff, yes. And it felt kinda good, yes. But did it have my heart? Hell no.

I've decided to ignore the voice that's saying 'you have creative time, you MUST use it'. A battle of my head vs my heart is ensuing yet again against in my creativity.

But all that head stuff is stifling and ultimately I just feel 'bleh!'
... anything I make will just feel 'bleh!' too. What is the point of creating 'bleh!' just to satisfy the head that something creative happened?

I'm going to ride the 'bleh!' wave.
It consists of using my creative time to instead read zines, take the dog for long walk, watch bad tv and switch off totally from the internet (which in my opinion can sometimes overwhelm, rather than assist creativity). All the stuff I feel like doing right now, but all the stuff I feel bad for doing (aka 'time wasting').

Perhaps by riding the wave till it ends I'll find a pot of creativity gold at the end (wave/rainbow - same thing right?)...if not then there's always more bad tv...

Much love

  1. I know just how you feel. It happens to me, too. Maybe that's why they make so much bad TV! It must happen to everyone.

  2. love your comment Janet :-)
Yep, I suppose it happens to us all this way.... when I do get madly creative there's no time - when there's time I feel "bleh" .....

  3. If my heart isn't in it I do bleh stuff, too. Sometimes you really need to take breaks. It just means you are simmering for a while. ;)

  4. I have more 'bleh' days than good days just lately. I am itching to be creative again but the mojo doesn't want to scratch. I'm losing confidence all the time. I should just go for it! x

  5. When I feel truly blah I spend time cutting images and letters from magazines....makes me feel accomplished, but doesn't require my brain to function too much.

  6. Reading this could not have come at a better time for me! I had a difficult work week but the idea of having my Saturday completely free for journal time kept me sane. Now its here, and everything I try looks horrible, nothing is coming together and I am so mad because I won't have any time available for at least another week! I guess its time just to let it go for now!

  7. Was so looking forward to a rare "just fun" day and I lost my mojo too! So frustrating when it just won't come together! Guess its time to let it go for the day. So glad to hear I'm not the only one who struggles with this sometimes!

  8. Ladies it is summer! I don't buy into having to create everyday. Too much presure. If I go outside and look at the green hills, tall oak trees, summer flowers, hear the wind stir up the corn stalks, I have fed my soul. I have been appreciative, positive, & pulled a weed or two. I still may not be creative but no bad TV was involved and I might get the dishes done. Winter is just too long here to not "be the change" and enjoy what it is!

  9. My mantra for the summer has become "it is what it is". Frustrating times as well as stupendous times have come my way in the past few months. Sometimes the muse visits and other times she flies on by. I like your idea of just riding out the bleh.

  10. best possible answer! I can't wait to see the outcome. it might just be that you're less distracted the next time you want to be creative or find yourself with the time. stranger things have happened.

  11. Been there, done that, got the t-shirt :D

Go and enjoy yourself and don't worry about it. Creativity will still be there when you come back refreshed x

  12. Even on a non-creative day you still add a lovely post to your blog! With all the creative things you do you are bound to need a break - reboot time! Mebbe you're pulled in too many directions at once? Everything will settle - allow yourself the break. Best wishes, Shroo :)

  13. "Bleh" days are the worst, I try my best to be creative in other parts of my life. Such as cooking a meal or singing, it helps sometimes. Everyone needs a break most definitely , I'm sure your creativity heart will come flying back to you. :D

  14. When I'm not feeling creative I like to sort (look through really) my stuff... Sometimes I find things I have forgotten about that spark creativity & sometimes I just sort for future creative days... Never force it, just follow the muse... Even if that means a mindless day off...

  15. Follow your heart, Jenni.....if you don't feel like creating, don't! It's okay....follow your heart....it'll come around :)

  16. "and on the seventh day, God rested from his creative works". He looked at it and said it is good. Cut yourself some slack. Soak up the beauty of nature, enjoy your beautiful dog, savor a simple food, enjoy the day without forcing the "art flower to bloom". It will come again.

  17. Sorry you are feeling BLEH!
Don't be too hard on yourself ... you need time to refresh and regenerate all your creative brain cells ... lord knows you share often enough to warrant a little breather!!
    Take care.

  20. Did we all seemingly drink the same kool-aid?? I have been suffering from the biggest tsunami wave of BLEH…BLEH the past few weeks. Where some days I have been hard pressed to even get my cellulite ridden behind out of bed. Literally ZERO computer time, blog time, creative time, phone time, cooking, cleaning, bleh…bleh…bleh…. This is my 1st computer time in almost 2 weeks. This is my go to place for sparking my Zippo to light a fire under my behind. I draw comfort and inspiration here not only because of your awesome creativity, but also your lack thereof, your BLEH time. Enjoy your quiet time sweet treat!!! Much love!!!
