Glorious Charcoal

I LOVE charcoal. It's so easy to use children's hands are stuffed with it (and also because it's so CHEAP of course), but it's also difficult in a 'I can't get that line quite right sort of way' - which I think is great because it takes the pressure off of you getting everything perfect. It also marks the page quickly, this sketch was done in 5 mins. I'm linking up with Sunday Sketches for the first time, come join and show off your sketches.

This charcoal sketch was about 15 mins & I have placed it in my large A3 art journal. The sketch is done, as I wanted it rough and ready to contrast the painted pages, but the page itself is still a work in progress so I'll show the full two page spread once it's completed. Thanks for visiting, Jennibellie

  3. Great sketches. I'm interested in seeing the whole spread once done. I love how fast and dark charcoal is, but even after fixative it smears so I always hesitate to use it in my sketchbooks. This makes me want to get mine back out and get messy, though.

  5. I love charcoal too - rubbing it in is a bit like sculpting with it. It's fun!

  7. I love the bold lines and shading of your profile sketch - it looks like it was chiseled from stone.

I love the look of charcoal, but I only use charcoal pencils (or gloves with the real thing) because the gritty feeling on my fingers drives me bananas! Ha!

(It's kind of funny because I don't mind being covered from head to toe in paint!)

I'm glad you're joining in the Sunday Sketches fun- it's one of my favorite groups and Sophia is a sweetie!

  9. These are so cool - I haven't worked with charcoal in so long...Graphite for the most part when I draw without color. You did a great job with these!

  11. have not try charcoal but you seems to master it. I do like the way it makes one not to have perfect anything they draw.

hope you're having a lovely autumn.

  18. I have always stayed away from charcoal as it is too messy for me... and I am kind of wierd that way!:) I need to be able to work with a medium in a nice clean beautiful fashion that makes me happy, not frustrated:)
    Your drawings are lovely.
    Hugs and blessings
