Fadding & a No-Reason Giveaway

I've been smashing a lot lately.
I find with the small creative time I have I go around in circles of the different creative areas I like - like smash booking, art journaling, blogging & online art pursuits, book binding, zine making - all are obviously tailored around my love of journaling somehow but I do it in a 'fad' (as my mother would call it) kind of way.
I do the same with materials, one fad I love pencils, the next acrylics, the next paper for collage, the next metal for mixed media. Does anyone else do this? Is it just a way of 'creatives' or am I a lone fadder???
I'm liking smashing at the minute because it allows either minimum or maximum creative input. Some days when I just don't want to do anything I can just grab a glue stick and go, and the days when I do I can create some pages that have some thought behind them.
One kind of creative pursuit that I'm not seeming to be fadding with is video making, and as I've been smashing that's what my latest videos are on. The first is on the difference between smash booking, junk journaling and art journaling. Many people I think have begun to think of them all as the same thing, but to me they're very different and so this video shows the different kinds of books and journaling styles:
And then I've also done a smashing tutorial, which shows both the kinds of smash booking I mentioned above - the easy and the more thought through.
And finally I feel like doing a giveaway. And other than the fact that I really love my online art chums & can't find enough time lately to be fadding and being online too, I can't really find a reason for giving one, but hey it's like easter eggs right??? There doesn't need to be a reason to have that extra one right?? (yes I do have a little feeling of guilt this easter, how did you tell?).
The giveaway is not much, just 2 small packets that includes the above girls from the drawing girls tutorial post. I always like to give away something handmade, the same as I prefer receiving handmade, so I'm including one in each packet.
And you can ask what's inside the packets but I'm not going to tell you lol but if you know me and guess that some vintage ephemera would be in there then you'd be, well not wrong but that's all the clues you're getting lol just leave a comment if you wana play, and I'll pick two winners out of a hat in my next post.
Much love and happy faddy pursuit wishes
Jennibellie xx

  1. Hi Jennibellie, I know what you mean about 'fadding', that's an excellent name for it! I've been flitting between two different journals lately, one's really small and I work differently in it than the larger one. I think it's great to have slightly different styles of project to suit changing moodsxx

  5. I'm kind of into fadding, too. Thinking about Smash booking but saw this Industrial chic stuff and oh I need to make some. Last year I was into art cards but not so much anymore.

    Would love to win!

  6. I'm so glad to know that jumping around from one creative interest to another is normal and not just a sign of my short attention span! I'm new to art journaling and smashing, so I sort of feel like a kid in a candy store, running from one thing to the next. I learn so much from your videos, so thank you so much for taking the time to make them!

  7. I also jump around and wonder if I will ever finish anything. I did finish a recycle christmas card journal for a friend. Thanks for all your wonderful ideas.

  8. I am not sure if I 'fad' similar to what you do, but I do seem to jump from one artsy thing to another. Never tried smashing, should give that a try one of these days.

Hmm. I wonder what's in the package, very curious to know.

  10. Surprises are so much fun! I love how you wrapped them up like presents. I go through spurts and seasons as well. Sometimes my brain needs time to marinate on a project before coming back to it.

  11. I have a tendency towards fadding, too. For awhile it was chain. Now it's seed beads. I'm starting to get into painting fabric, though, and I can see the obsession starting to form. :)

  21. I love your take on it - I call it my crafting ADD. Between my crafting ADD and my natural procrastinative personality - I seem to accomplish very little. I like you way much much better!! Thanks for inspiring me - I've been attempting my first portraits. Not good - but fun!!

  33. I am totally a "fad" kind of person too. When I get my mind set on learning something I go full-on, buying all of the toys to do it properly...then, when the fad is "over" for me, I move on to other things. I am currently into smash booking and junk journaling right now. I just got my own craft room and sorted all of my stuff, now all of these supplies are in one spot! I can do it so much easier now! I have been trying art journaling, but I don't think I am cut out for it. Smash booking seems to be more my style. I love your work, thank you for sharing!

  34. While the term is completely new to me, the concept is how I have always done things. I think that's part of the reason I'm trying to combine things, but that experiment is just beginning.
Right now I'm going to watch the videos so I can learn what "smash journaling" and junk journaling" are and how they differ from "art journaling."
(If it's not too late, enter me into the drawing, but I'm behind reading blogs, so I understand if its too late.)

  44. I call "fadding" being eclectic. I dabble in so many artistic pursuits at once that I have a lot of unfinished projects (something that I'm working on). It's funny because I'm like that with people too. I can be mad about you one week and the next week someone else has my adoration. But you my dear, will always be adored by me. ;) Enjoy your week!

  57. humm...I'm glad your mum put a name to what I'd call jumping around the creative fringes like a headless chicken ,and it's certainly reassuring to know that I am not the only one 'fadding".
I want to play and get some goodies<3 (I dunno what it is I'm playing yet, but I am IN)
Love the videos (I am too scared to make one) and all the ideas and intoducing easy peasy bookbinding and journaling into my world so I have more choices jump around from.
